Redditch United are through to the second round of the FA Trophy after a 1-0 win at Alfreton on Tuesday.
Jordan Smith gave the Reds the lead before the home side missed a penalty after Richard Softley was dismissed.
Redditch United boss Gary Whild told BBC Hereford & Worcester: "I think first half we deserved to be in front but then it was backs to the wall.
"We probably rode our luck, but for the amount of effort we put in we deserved the win."
Whild continued: "I thought the straight red card for the penalty was a bit harsh and when you are down to ten men it's difficult.
Redditch now travel to Blue Square Premier side Forest Green Rovers in the second round.
"I'm looking forward to that," said Whild.
"It's the chance to play against a full-time team and not far to travel so we will be up for that one."
