David Mirfin scored an injury-time winner as Scunthorpe beat Rochdale to reach the northern area semi-finals of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.
With chances few and far between it looked like the match would have to be settled by penalties.
Rochdale almost snatched a late lead when Lee Thorpe was denied by a good double save by keeper Joe Murphy.
But the winner came when centre-back Mirfin headed in after the visitors had failed to clear Kevan Hurst's cross.
