Brighton clinched a place in the third round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy with a dramatic win on penalties after a Leyton Orient fightback.
A penalty by Adam Virgo and a low shot from Joe Anyinsah put the home side two up after only 14 minutes.
But Ryan Jarvis headed home in the 21st minute and Adam Boyd's 71st-minute penalty deservedly pulled Orient level.
Orient's Luke Ashworth had his penalty saved in the shoot-out, then Adam El-Abd converted the decisive kick.
