Morecambe booked their place in the northern area quarter-final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy after beating Chester on penalties.
Goalkeeper Barry Roche was the Morecambe hero as he saved three spot-kicks in the shoot-out.
In normal time, Roche provided a 60-yard assist to Rene Howe, who lobbed Chester keeper John Danby from just inside the box.
Kevin Ellison equalised for Chester with a right-foot strike from 15-yards.
