First-half goals from by Andy Robinson and substitute Luciano Becchio earned Leeds a victory over rivals Bradford in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.
Robinson opened the scoring on eight minutes with a penalty after Paul McLaren had handled, but City had a goal disallowed after 21 minutes.
Becchio doubled the lead with a header three minutes before half-time.
City pulled a goal back through Barry Conlon in the 71st minute, but Leeds held on to progress to the next stage.
