Lowestoft are within 90 minutes of lifting the FA Vase
What an epic it turned out to be.
Lowestoft Town had to endure 90 minutes of sheer anxiety up at Whitley Bay.
They eventually secured a dream trip to Wembley and will face Kirkham and Wesham in the final of the FA Vase on 11 May.
Leading 4-0 from the first leg at Crown Meadow, it was always going to be a case of taking the sting out of Whitley Bay early.
But the home side pulled three goals back inside the opening 19 minutes.
The way Whitley Bay were playing they looked odds on to increase their tally as the game went on.
But for some reason they changed their play and Lowestoft started to get to grips with them.
It was backs-to-the-wall stuff from the Blues but they held out to ensure a 4-3 victory on aggregate.
Keeper Andy Reynolds, who was a doubt for the game having dislocated his hip in the first leg, could hardly walk come the final whistle but the decision to play him turned out to be the right one.
He pulled off a fantastic double save in the second half and did not panic after such a hectic start.
At the final whistle there was a mixture of joy and sheer relief that the boys had made it.
In the Southern Premier Division, King's Lynn secured a comfortable 4-0 win over relegated Cheshunt and can now turn their attention to Saturday's massive game against promotion rivals Team Bath.
Lynn are still third but just two points behind leaders Halesowen and one point behind Team Bath.
With just five games to go the match at The Walks on Saturday will be key.
Wroxham keep plugging away in their quest to retain their title in the Ridgeons Premier.
Danny White's goal was enough to beat Felixstowe and keep hopes alive for The Yachtsmen although they cannot afford a single slip-up.
