Neil Warnock tastes success at Scarborough, Notts County, Huddersfield and Plymouth before moving to Bury in 1998 Despite suffering relegation, Warnock is offered the chance to replace Russell Slade at Sheffield United in December 1999 Always one to voice his opinion, the Sheffield-born manager sees his side finish in midtable in his first two seasons The 2001/02 season sees the Blades come 13th, but the talents of youngsters like Phil Jagielka (c) become evident The following campaign is one of great highs and lows with Warnock's men reaching the semi-final of the Worthington Cup The Yorkshire club also make the last four in the FA Cup but find themselves beaten 1-0 by Arsenal at Old Trafford In the League, the team find themselves bound for Cardiff after a play-off semi-final win over Nottingham Forest They meet Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Millennium Stadium but are outplayed in a one-sided 3-0 defeat The next year is one of frustration for the Blades as they end up in eighth and miss a play-off berth by only two points Another eighth place in 2004/05 sees Warnock's men miss out again but this seems to only increase their resolve The following April, Sheffield United seal promotion with two games to spare after drawing with Leeds at Bramall Lane The Blades find life at the higher level a challenge but some notable wins give them hope of survival Continued good results see Warnock's side go 10 points clear of the relegation zone in February However, two wins from their remaining 11 games sees them relegated and leads to Warnock's decision to leave the club
