Australian A League side Sydney FC have confirmed that they have parted company with manager Terry Butcher. The former England captain, who joined the club from Motherwell, leaves Sydney fourth in the eight-team top flight, 16 points off leaders Melbourne Victory.
A club statement read: "The parties and lawyers have had their discussions and we can confirm that Terry's contract as head coach has come to an end.
Former Chelsea star Gianfranco Zola has expressed an interest in the post.
Sydney's statement added: "An interim coaching structure will be implemented in the near future."
Zola is assistant coach of the Italy Under-21 team, but his contract expires in June.
A spokesman for Zola said: "The interest is genuine, he definitely believes a move to Australia is something he would like to do, and he feels he could help take the club forward.
"it's really up to the club to make the first move."
Former Rangers and Ipswich defender Butcher's last match in charge was a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle Jets on 2 February.
The 48-year-old took over the club in May 2006 and had a year left on his contract.
