The Wembley saga should finally end in 2007 |
Rugby Football League bosses are confident that the 2007 Challenge Cup final will be held at the new Wembley. A deal between builders Multiplex and the FA is expected to see the venue ready to host next May's FA Cup final.
That means rugby league's showpiece occasion is now almost certain to take
place at Wembley in late August.
RFL executive chairman Richard Lewis said: "My understanding is that the stadium is looking great and things
are progressing extremely well."
Last year the RFL was the first organisation to put tickets on sale for a major sporting occasion at the 800m venue.
But officials were left with red faces when delays forced them to switch the 2006 Challenge Cup final to Twickenham.
Lewis said he was confident there would no repeat.
"I don't think at this stage we need a contingency. I think it's interesting
that the FA haven't got a contingency either and we would reflect the same
optimism."
