Woodgate has made a superb start at Middlesbrough |
Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate has challenged the club's fans to make Jonathan Woodgate's decision to turn his back on Real Madrid for him. The 26-year-old England defender makes his first home appearance at The Riverside when Boro face Blackburn.
Southgate said: "The atmosphere at home will play a big part in deciding whether he wants to be here at the end of the season.
"He will get a terrific reception when we play Blackburn."

Woodgate turned in superb individual displays in the draws at Arsenal and Bolton before being rested for the Carling Cup defeat against Notts County.
He arrived on Teesside after two injury-wrecked seasons in Madrid desperate to prove himself to Real boss Fabio Capello once again.
Southgate's retirement after he was asked to replace Steve McClaren at the helm robbed the club's supporters of their talisman.
His commanding performances and leadership were invaluable, and his celebration after victories became an eagerly-awaited trademark.
But the 36-year-old is confident Woodgate can replace him in the crowd's affections.
He said: "I had good relationships with the fans at all my clubs, but I never felt quite taken in as much as I was by the supporters here.
"That had a big impact on me and certainly made me feel very welcome - and I was impressed with it given that I am from London.
"For Jonathan, it will be even more significant. Having been in this area for a while, I know how much they will enjoy having a Middlesbrough boy captaining the side."
