Linfield's Jamie Mulgrew challenges Brian Cash of Derry |
Linfield are still on course for the Setanta Cup semi-finals despite drawing 0-0 for the second match running. The holders will qualify if they beat Glentoran at home in their final match while Derry can also go through if they win away to group leaders Shelbourne.
In the first half Derry's David Forde made a fine save from Peter Thompson.
In the second half Linfield keeper Alan Mannus denied Ciaran Martyn and Gary Beckett while striker Mark Farren's lob came off the crossbar.
Linfield manager David Jeffrey admitted the holders were lucky to get away with the 0-0 draw.
"We did not pass the ball the way we can and had to rely on our battling qualities," said Jeffrey.
"We enjoyed a slice of luck with them hitting the bar and you have to give the credit to Derry for playing the attacking football.
"We have played a lot of matches this season and are happy with the point."
Derry manager Stephen Kenny was disappointed his side could not turn their chances into goals.
"Linfield are resilient. They defend well for each other and their keeper made some good saves," said Kenny.
"I was pleased with our performance but disappointed because it was a pivotal game, we needed to win.
"But we are still in the competition and will go through if we win away to Shelbourne next week."
