Fans react to Glazer's takeover of Man Utd

Football fans have been flooding the BBC's 606 message boards with their opinions of Malcolm Glazer's takeover bid for Manchester United.

There has been outcry by furious United fans who are fiercely against the 78-year-old American taking control of the club.

And fans of other teams have also offered support as they to believe the move is bad for English football.

Here is a selection of comments from the message boards.

MAN UTD FANS ON THE TAKEOVER

It's time to up sticks and form a new club. I think if this happens I will support it even if it remains at the pits of the Conference for the next ten years or even a non league side. As long as it's not owned by one person that's all that matters.
Red Onslaught

What we all need right now is for Malcolm Glazer to issue a statement about what they intend for our club, surely this will ease the fans view of him. I for one am stuck in the middle. I think our club is fine how it is but if he can give us a regular transfer kitty without hiking the prices of tickets and merchandise up then this also will good for the club.

Let's face facts! The majority of REAL fans realistically know that Glazer has got our beloved club in the bag. So there's no point fighting a losing battle. Unless someone can throw in a few hundred million? So lets just look into the future.
one_love_one_united

Come on everybody, we sound like a bunch of frightened schoolkids. Glazer has done a lot of excellent things at Tampa, invested in a franchise that was worth nowt, and turned it into a BIG money enterprise. He has the backing of a BIG board, cash to spare so let's see how much damage he really does intend. Do you really think he is going to come and buy us if he thinks there is no chance of making serious bundles ? I think not.
ShamelessRedBoy

This is a sad, sad day in the history of our football club. This is the biggest downer in our club's history.
Red-is-the-Future

This really isn't as bad as everyone is making it out to be, it could turn out good you never know. United are far from over! We just have to wait and see what happens.
The_reds_go_marching_on_on_on

For starters, no replica United shirts at the Cup final. This should give the on-looking Glazer an idea that we are not prepared to be PLC sheep in order to pay off his mortgage.
GlazerOut!!

Glazer has to be in place quickly if we are to buy the best players, my guess is that we have missed out on Michael Essien, Wright-Phillips and Joaquin.
Red-Love

Nothing we can do, unless one of us has a spare billion, except love our club and support our players.

Perhaps things may turn out better than people think

So where do you think this money comes from? YOU, ME and ALL UTD FANS! and what happens if we have a couple of bad seasons? As soon as the profits go then the ground gets sold, star players get sold, ticket prices will go through the roof and the majority of the crowd will be corporate seats, real fans will only be able to watch United on pay-per-view.
comeonUreds

Perhaps things may turn out better than people think. If Glazer ends up owning the club, OK, so he's got to borrow the money, but in order to pay the bank and make a profit for himself he must make United a success. No success equals no money or very little, so I imagine if he does manage the takeover (and I think he will) he will invest and try to make United an even bigger and better club, but only time will tell.

Lots of terrible things this season - the takeover, early Champions League exit, no Premiership, perhaps FA Cup, but looking unlikely, no money for new players - is there any hope?
Lost boy

I hope we stick together and fight for United the club. Looking on the bright side while I didn't want Glazer and still don't, we will have a decent transfer budget of about 20m.
Red-LOVE

A lot of anger should be aimed at JP McManus and John Magnier along with anyone else who chose to sell their soul to the devil not thinking of what may happen to Manchester United plc as a result. Mr Glazer is just a typical stone-hearted businessman who is out for himself!

FANS OF OTHER CLUBS ON THE TAKEOVER

Liverpool fan here, just like to express my solidarity with those opposed to the Glazer takeover, and am disappointed to see all the gloaters who can't resist having a laugh at what is really a sad day for English football as a whole.
Red Rum

What you can do against Glazer is don't go to games. An empty stadium until Glazer has gone will do. Do all of you have the will to do it? It would be a very difficult thing to achieve and would have to be brilliantly organised so that no one lets you down. Your club would probably suffer greatly while all of that is going on but would be worth it. Yours in football.

True United fans should wait and see what develops
50 years on

Normally I couldn't give a monkey's about what happens to your team, but this guy has got me seriously worried about the future of the English game. I know my team have benefited from the arrival of Abramovich, but Glazer is an altogether different breed. Your club won't be his personal play thing, it will be his cash cow. He could bleed you dry and leave you in a worse state than Leeds.
Makelele scores a screamer

The obvious long-term implications set aside, I think the short-term impact on your side's preparations for the cup final are serious, this whole affair blowing up now will seriously hamper the players mentality going into the match. And all this talk of boycotts won't help at all.
TheSufferingVilla

I am a Chelsea fan and have not come to gloat, but true United fans should wait and see what develops. True fans will follow United through anything and if in a couple of years Glazer has invested and you are winning everything, there you will be on the season ticket waiting list, perhaps for years, regretting a few minutes of madness. Just take time to reflect.
50 years on

I'm a Charlton fan and I would love to see some serious money come into my club, but not in the manner of Glazer. I only hope that this is not as bad as it first seems and Man Utd remains the team they are and have been in the past.
Red Red Rob

From a Gooner - this takeover shows football is more about money than passion. Make it difficult for Mr Glazer.
