Beckenbauer will stand for the presidency of Uefa in 2007 |
Pele believes Franz Beckenbauer is better equipped than Michel Platini to take over as president of Uefa when Lennart Johansson stands down in 2007. Platini, vice-president of the French Football Federation, was the sole candidate at the end of March until Beckenbauer said he would also stand.
And Pele's backing of the German is a further blow to the French legend.
Pele told Germany's Welt am Sonntag newspaper: "Franz always gets what he wants. He would be the right man."
