Sports minister Richard Caborn believes the new Wembley will be ready in time to host the FA Cup final next May. Caborn has held recent meetings with constructors Multiplex and backs them to complete the stadium by 31 March - as planned.
"They say the Cup final will be there, barring six feet of snow or something like that," Caborn told Sportsweek on BBC Radio Five Live.
"They have given me reassurances that it will be ready for the Cup final."
The Football Association has placed the Millennium Stadium on standby to host the match as speculation persists that constructors Multiplex will miss their deadline.
But Caborn added: "I met the ex-chairman of the company two or three months ago and the managing director this week for an update and they are firm it will be ready by 31 March."
Asked whether he believed them, the sports minister replied: "I do. From what I have seen it will be on time - it won't be on price - but it will be on time."
