Oldham came back from 5-1 down to keep themselves in touch after the first leg of the LDV Vans northern area final. Juan Ugarte and Mark Jones put Wrexham two goals ahead but Scott Vernon pulled one back before the interval.
The visitors looked to have settled the tie as Darren Ferguson scored either side of another two from Ugarte in a remarkable seven minute spell.
But Oldham hit back through David Eyres and a disputed Vernon penalty, who then had a shot saved in the closing stages.
