SFA considers goal-line evidence
THE GOAL THAT WASN'T
New technology to decide whether a goal has been scored would interest the Scottish Football Association.

The SFA was reacting to Tuesday's incident in the English Premiership, when Tottenham Hotspur were denied a clear goal against Manchester United.

"We are certainly keen to modernise the game where possible," said a spokesman for the SFA.

"The specifics of goal-line technology will be discussed at the next meeting of the International FA board."

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson called for camera technology to be used after TV footage showed that Pedro Mendes' speculative strike from the halfway line comfortably crossed the goal-line after an error from United goalkeeper Roy Carroll.

"We obviously recognise that, as technology improves and is being introduced to other areas of the game such as new forms of turf, there is the possibility to change the laws of the game," said the SFA spokesman.

"But there are a wide range of issues to be considered as to exactly how that should be done."

The International FA board meets on 26 February and will discuss the issue with a presentation from ball manufacturer adidas believed to be on the agenda.

It comprises four members from Fifa and one each from the England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland FAs, because of the home nations' historic role in formulating the laws of the game.
