Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was scathing in his assessment of Chelsea after seeing his side lose 2-1 to the Blues in Sunday's Community Shield.

"Chelsea were dangerous with the long ball. They do it very well," he said after Didier Drogba's double strike earned Chelsea victory.

"It's a fact that Drogba likes the high balls and they gave us a hard time.

"But I'm not worried. Why should I worry? Did you see the game? You can worry for the Chelsea supporters."

Wenger also felt that Hernan Crespo's decision to shield the ball in the corner to run the clock down at the end of the game proved Chelsea fear the Gunners.

"I don't see the point in doing that in a charity game," said the Frenchman.

"That shows it was difficult for them to beat us on the pitch. I took it as a compliment.

"The result is not too important. We have won four Community Shields and no one regards it as a trophy so I do not mind any more.

"I feel our game suffered a bit from the quality of the pitch and from the fact we are not 100% sharp yet, but overall I'm happy because we were consistent, our technical quality was good and our spirit was strong."

Wenger admitted he still harbours a degree of resentment towards Chelsea after their "tapping up" of Arsenal's Ashley Cole last season.

"We can never forget what happened, but we can forgive if the attitude and behaviour changes," he said.

The Arsenal boss added he was convinced that Arsenal's squad of promising youngsters could mount a challenge for the Premiership, despite the sale of Patrick Vieira to Juventus.

"We have lost many great players in the past and miss all of them.

"But life goes on and you have to look at what is in front you - and I think the future is bright.

"Our younger players will be better this year, they will improve and we have a lot so we can only be better.

"Maybe we were a bit too confident last season and it became a bit too easy for us.
