An All-Party Football Group survey has revealed strong support for the regulation of football agents. The group conducted a survey of non-Premiership clubs and found that 86% were in favour of stricter controls on agents in the sport.
"Up to 90% want regulation and want money back from agents by a levy," said Alan Keen MP.
The Football League revealed in July that clubs had forked out a total of 1.4m to agents in six months.
The group does not have any formal powers, but expects the Football Association - the sport's governing body in England - to take note of its findings.
"It's not us who will change football," said Keen.
"It's the authorities who have to make those decisions, listening to the views we have gathered together."
The survey, which also included non-league clubs, was only returned by 37% of clubs overall and by 30 out of 72 Football League clubs.
Other findings included the idea that half of all non-Premiership clubs would like an independent body to replace the FA.
"We were surprised that 50% of the clubs below the Premiership, where we'd expect stronger loyalty to the FA, said they'd favour an independent regulator and only 49% favoured the FA," said Keen.
