Europe's top sides are converging on north America in the next week for the Champions World Series.

Manchester United, AC Milan, Chelsea, Celtic, Roma, Porto, Bayern Munich, Galatasaray and Liverpool will compete in the event in America and Canada.

Despite the tournament's name - in venues from Seattle to Toronto - it is not a competitive tournament.

Among the top matches are Celtic versus Liverpool, Chelsea against Roma and Man Utd facing AC Milan.

United flew out for their three-match, 10-day tour on Wednesday with an 18-man squad.

They left without Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who suffered the recurrence of a knee injury which required surgery last September and caused him to miss the majority of the season.

But midfielder Nicky Butt made the squad, despite being hotly tipped for a switch to Premiership rivals Newcastle.

The club are expected to start with a relatively youthful set-up against Bayern Munich on Sunday with key figures rested after the exertions of Euro 2004.

A host of new faces are expected to be unveiled at the event, among them former Benfica midfielder Tiago, who joined Chelsea on Wednesday.
