League crowds on the up
Fans celebrate a successful season at Plymouth
Crowds figures are at their highest since the 1963-64 season
Nationwide League crowds are at their highest level for 40 years with 15.9m people attending games over the season.

Figures show an annual increase of more than 1m spectators with an average of 9,595-per-game.

Crowds for the First Division continue to far outstrip the equivalent leagues in Europe with gates 50% higher than those in Italy and Germany.

"They are a testament to the quality of football played by our clubs," said League chairman Sir Brian Mawhinney.

Mawhinney also praised the facilities in the lower leagues and the promotional work clubs do in their areas.

"The figures demonstate the passion for the game that exists amongst supporters at all levels of the Football League," he added.

DIVISIONAL ATTENDANCES
Div One: 8.8m - 15,890 ave
Div Two: 4.1m - 7,507 ave
Div Three: 3m - 5,389 ave

"They are also a testament to the hard work clubs carry out in the local communities to encourage the next generation of supporters."

The biggest increase came in the Third Division where crowds were 21% larger than the previous season.

Year-on year figures showed a 3% increase in Division One and 6.5% in the Second Division.
