Cornforth wants promotion to the Conference within two seasons |
Former Wales and Swansea midfielder John Cornforth has been appointed the new manager of Newport County. The 36-year-old replaces Peter Nicholas who was sacked by the club two weeks ago after a poor start to the season.
Cornforth's only previous managerial experience came during a short spell at Exeter, where he was sacked in 2002.
He said: "I am delighted to be given the opportunity by Newport to get my managerial career back on track. I'll take the club to the next level."
Cornforth's first game in charge will be this Saturday's FA Cup second qualifying round tie at Corsham Town.
