Gazza's last chance in China
Paul Gascoigne
Gascoigne is keen to find a new club
Paul Gascoigne will get another chance to prove himself to Chinese club Liaoning Bodao.

The former England midfielder made a miserable start in an exhibition match set up to showcase his skills.

The Chinese press described Gazza's performance as "weak and clumsy."

But Liaoning Bodao's chairman Cao Guojun says it is too early to decide if he will take Gazza on.

"We haven't made a final decision on whether we need him or not," Cao told Chinese papers.

"He just got here, and people should have more chances to show what they've got."

"But if he's no good, of course we won't run the risk of keeping him."

Question marks

Gascoigne has struggled to regain his fitness since leaving Burnley at the end of last season.

The 35-year-old insists he has worked hard ahead of his trial with Liaoning.

"I'm working well in China and scored a great goal, " he told Sky Sports News.

"The chairman wants me to stay longer, these reports saying otherwise are all lies."

But question marks over his physical abilities are being raised in China.

"I don't know what's wrong with him," Liaoning Bodao player Luo Tongliang told the Beijing Star.

"There seems to be a mismatch between his reputation and his actual performance."

Gascoigne has been linked with clubs in New Zealand and the United States in the last year.

His playmaking skills were enjoyed by Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, Lazio and Rangers during his heyday.

But his career has been held back by a volatile temper and sporadic bouts of heavy drinking.
