| Saturday, 1 June, 2002, 21:02 GMT 22:02 UK English in for Nemsadze ![]() Temuri Ketsbaia has been offered a coaching post Midfielder Giorgi Nemsadze could be the next foreign player to leave Dundee after the club axed five of their imports. But they have offered his Georgian international team-mate, Temuri Ketsbaia, a coaching role in an attempt to keep him at Dens Park. The Scottish Premier League outfit have received two offers from two English clubs for Nemsadze, who captains his international side. Dundee had already allowed Walter del Rio, Massimo Beghetto, Beto Garrido, Kiko torres and Gerardo Traverso to leave as part of cost-cutting measures.
The 30-year-old could command a figure of 1m, with speculation linking Newcastle United and Celtic with the player. Nemsadze only returned to the Dundee first team in the last month of the season having missed most of the campaign through injury. While he could leave, Dundee continue to insist that manager Ivano Bonetti is going nowhere, despite reports suggesting he would be leaving in June. Club spokesman Neil Scott told his club's website: "Ivano is contracted as Dundee's manager for another year and we expect to see him back at Dens for pre-season." Dundee are keen to also retain former Newcastle midfielder Ketsbaia as a player but also give him an opportunity to begin a coaching career. "Everyone at the club has been impressed with Temuri, both as a player and a person, and we believe that, as well as still being able to perform at a high level on the park, he also has a lot to offer as a coach," the spokesman said. "Nothing has been signed yet, but we are talking to him and we can confirm that he is very much someone we would like to keep at the club. "The club's impression is that Temuri would like to continue his Dundee career." Ketsbaia arrived at Dundee in October and made 22 appearances for the Dees, scoring six times.
Former Crystal Palace defender Del Rio was probably the biggest surprise among the departures. The Argentinian started 38 games in his two seasons at Dens Park. His 27-year-old striker countryman Garrido made only 16 starts in 16 months with Dundee. Former Vicenza defender Beghetto had made 21 starts since the Italian arrived in November. Spanish midfielder Torres made only three starts since signing in December. Paraguayan forward Traverso only featured twice as a substitute in his five months on Tayside. | See also: 28 May 02 | Millwall 26 May 02 | Scot Div 3 Top Football stories now: Links to more Football stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
