Richard Kruse's guide to fencing
Britain's Richard Kruse won his third European Championship medal in four years, with bronze in Leipzig.
Londoner Kruse, ranked sixth in the world in the foil event, won two tough early ties but fell to Italy's Valerio Aspromonte in the semi-final.
"This shows he is a consistent world-class performer. A gold medal at a major championships is tantalisingly close," said GB director Graham Watts.
Kruse, 26, won silver last year in Bulgaria, and was second in 2006.
Next year's European Championships will be held in Sheffield.
And British Fencing chief executive Piers Martin said: "With the championships coming to the UK next year we are hoping for more success but this time on home turf.
"We still have a few days to go here, though, and there certainly is a chance that we could get another medal or two."
