Sampson in action for state side South Australia |
World Cup holders Australia have named uncapped seamer Emma Sampson in their squad for the inaugural Women's World Series in India. Sampson replaces long-serving Julie Hayes, one of two changes to the side which beat New Zealand in the annual Rose Bowl last October.
"I was very excited to get the call from the selectors," said Sampson.
Batter Alex Blackwell has been recalled in place of Michelle Goszko and again joins twin sister Kate in the squad.
The World Series, which starts on 21 February, involves Australia, New Zealand, India and England and is an important stepping stone towards the next World Cup in 2009.
Each team plays the other three twice in a under a round robin league format, with the top two going through to the final in Madras (Chennai) on 5 March.
Australia squad: K Rolton (capt), L Sthalekar, S Andrews, A Blackwell, K Blackwell, M Bulow, S Edwards, C Fitzpatrick, S Nitschke, K Pike, L Poulton, J Purves, E Sampson, C Smith.
