Australia captain Karen Rolton has been named Women's Player of the Year at the International Cricket Council awards ceremony in Mumbai. It was the first time a women's award has been part of the annual event, which was first held in 2004.
"It's fantastic that the ICC has included a women's award this year and it is greatly appreciated.
"We are trying to progress women's cricket and this certainly helps," 31-year-old Rolton commented.
"It means a lot to me as the other nominees were very strong. Katherine Brunt has had a great year - she is one for the future - and Anjum Chopra has been around doing a great job for India for many years."
Rolton recently won her 100th one-day cap during the Rose Bowl series against New Zealand, which Australia won 5-0.
And her skill and commitment earned warm praise from ICC chief executive Malcolm Speed.
"Karen has been a fantastic player for Australia for many years. She is an inspiration to other sportswomen, and men around the world, for her dedication and obvious passion for cricket," he said.
