Graeme Fowler reflects on his time as a summariser with Test Match Special.

I cannot remember when I properly graduated to being a TMS regular.

I got involved years ago when I was in the original County Talk with Jonathan Agnew and Vic Marks and I remember walking around the Waca in 1987 when I was roped in to the box.

But as to when fully-fledged summarising status was bestowed upon me - maybe the mid-nineties.

That's no time at all compared to some of those in the box, most notably the producer, Peter Baxter.

He has been in charge for something like 30 years, and despite all the commentators coming and going, the flavour has remained the same and you have to look at the one person who has been there throughout.

Peter has his own way of lunacy amid all the calm and it works perfectly with everyone and everything fitting in.

It would be hard to be a misfit in that box because they're all misfits and as long as your not that normal you'll fit in.

My run in with Henry Blofeld at the Oval a few years ago proves that there's no such thing as normality in that box.

He was having a go at my trousers so I decided not to speak to him for his 20-minute stint on air.

The first time he asked me a question I wrote down "Not talking to you!" and he read it out, so I carried on.

I've had people come up to me and tell me they had to stop driving because they were crying with laughter.

It was all down to Henry being able to pull it off and even in the box everyone was killing themselves laughing.
