Bravo is one of West Indies' leading players
West Indies will be without all-rounder Dwayne Bravo for their five-match one-day series against Australia, which starts in Melbourne on Sunday. The 26-year-old has failed to recover from a thumb injury he suffered playing for Victoria last month. The Windies have drafted in left-handed batsman Wavell Hinds as replacement. Bravo will also miss both Twenty20 internationals against the Aussies but aims to return at the end of the month month when Zimbabwe tour the Caribbean. The loss of Bravo will come as a further blow to a side already without the likes of Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Fidel Edwards and Ramnaresh Sarwan, while Sulieman Benn is suspended. | 606: DEBATE |
The all-rounder is rated as one of West Indies' leading players, and they will be hard-pressed to cope in his absence against the Aussies, who rebounded from Ashes heartache to successfully defend their ICC Champions Trophy title last year. Australia beat West Indies 2-0 in the three-Test series which concluded just before Christmas and have since embarked on an impressive run of victories, winning all three Tests against Pakistan and whitewashing the same opponents 5-0 in the one-day internationals. Former England bowling coach Ottis Gibson will not be joining up with the West Indies squad. His job as new coach of the side does not start until the Caribbean side's home series against Zimbabwe.
