Benn and Haddin argue during the third Test in Melbourne

West Indies spinner Sulieman Benn has been suspended for two one-day internationals following an on-field altercation with Australian players.

Benn was involved in a heated argument during the third Test with Brad Haddin and Mitchell Johnson who have also been fined for their involvement.

The clash was sparked by bowler Benn colliding with non-striker Johnson while trying to field a ball.

Haddin later became involved and the three argued at the end of the over.

Benn then pointed at Haddin over Johnson's shoulder and two balls later the bowler threatened to throw at the stumps with the batsman well in his crease after playing a defensive stroke down the wicket.

That prompted the Australian wicketkeeper to walk down the wicket, pointing his bat at Benn, Johnson then pushing the 28-year-old spinner before umpire Billy Bowden stepped in to defuse the situation.

Benn, who has the right to appeal, pleaded not guilty to his level two offence but match referee Chris Broad found him guilty at a hearing following the second day's play in Perth.

"It was an incident which could have been avoided," Broad said in a statement.

"No one likes to see cricketers pointing bats at their opponents or pushing each other away. It is not the sort of example that players should be setting at any time."

Haddin and Johnson admitted their respective charges.
