It's no good just having talent on paper, it's a matter of producing it out in the middle Ricardo Powell

Ricardo Powell says talented youngsters Marlon Samuels, Dwayne Bravo and Dwayne Smith can help West Indies achieve a place in this year's World Cup final.

The trio shone in the opening win over Pakistan on Tuesday but Powell says they must continue at the same level.

The all-rounder told BBC Sport: "Marlon is a match-winner, and the other two have shown they are very gifted too.

"I think it can be a world-beating team, definitely make it to the final, but it comes down to consistency."

Samuels, 26, is in a rich vein of form, having hit 379 runs in his last seven one-day international innings, including a fine 63 against Pakistan.

But before that he had not managed a fifty in more than three years, which explains his lowly batting average of 30.27.

Bravo's is even worse at 23.73 but he continues to impress with his bowling, while fellow 23-year-old all-rounder Smith has seldom displayed his explosive hitting ability.

"It's all about playing competitive cricket on a regular basis," added Powell, who is taking time out from top-level cricket to focus on his family and business interests.

"When you have players like that in a team, so many capable of winning a game, it's great.

"But it's no good just having that talent on paper, it's a matter of producing it when you go out in the middle.

"They have not done it consistently, which is the biggest problem in this West Indies team.
