 | Dwayne Bravo and Dwayne Smith have not produced to their ability Ex-West Indies star Jeff Dujon |
Former West Indies star Jeffrey Dujon says the team have "a long way to go" before they can be considered potential winners of the World Cup. The hosts saw off Pakistan by 54 runs on Tuesday but Dujon says there are too many flaws that still need ironing out.
"It was a good performance and we've shown some commitment in the field and bowled well to bring back the game but I'm still not happy.
"We were 30 runs short and the batting still gives me concern," he said.
Dujon, who kept wicket in 81 Tests between 1981 and 1991, added: "There is a general lack of application and the team is too inconsistent."
The Windies' 241-9 owed much to Jamaican batsman Marlon Samuels' 63 at Sabina Park before Pakistan crumbled in the face of a disciplined performance from the home bowlers.
But Dujon says the batting frailties which surfaced in warm-up games have not been eradicated and there is plenty to work on.

"They are still not up to scratch in my mind. This innings was built on Samuels' effort but it's time this team stopped looking to Brian Lara and made names for themselves," he told BBC Sport.
"They have been around long enough now and (all-rounders) Dwayne Bravo and Dwayne Smith have not produced to their ability.
"The wicket-keeper Denesh Ramdin has been too patchy and I still have concerns about him at the highest level.
"I'm also not happy with them depending on Chris Gayle and Samuels to bowl 10-15 overs between them, although the surface in this game did not require it.
Dujon has warned the Windies to guard against complacency |
"We just don't have the quality in our bowling attack that other teams do, we're a bit samey and don't have the variety." Dujon does believe, however, the victory could inspire the team to greater heights in a competition he says is "wide open".
The two points Lara's men gained will be carried over if, as expected, they and Pakistan go through to the Super 8 stage.
Minnows Ireland and Zimbabwe are their rivals in Group D and former gloveman Dujon added: "They have got off to a good start and this will improve the level of confidence.
"This will hold them in good stead as they are too inconsistent. This will be a boost because Pakistan have beaten them in 10 out of the last 12 games.
"They just have to guard against complacency against the weaker teams. They have to finish off the other two comfortably before we can look ahead."
