Lara spoke out after the Windies' poor showing against India |
West Indies skipper Brian Lara faces an inquiry after criticising his own board during the recent series against India. The WICB has appointed a four-man committee "to investigate all matters relating to Mr Lara's statements".
It will "take such action as it may consider appropriate after these matters are discussed with him".
Lara was unhappy with team selection against India and recently threatened to "revisit" his decision to become captain for the third time.
The 37-year-old was appointed in April after Shivnarine Chanderpaul decided to quit the job.
But after India won the last Test by 49 runs inside three days in Jamaica, to clinch their first Caribbean series victory for 35 years, Lara said: "It's painful what has gone on in the past couple of months, not just the Test matches, but (also) the one-day matches."
And he warned that he would not accept a situation where his reputation was being "dragged down".
Since then, Joey Carew has resigned from the West Indies selection panel, with Gordon Greenidge taking over as convenor.
Lara is currently away from the Caribbean, but the board hopes he will meet with the committee, whose members include former skipper Clive Lloyd and board president Ken Gordon, within the next fortnight.
Despite the current situation, the board has confirmed that Lara is one of seven players to be offered central contracts.
The others are Chanderpaul, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Chris Gayle, Corey Collymore, Fidel Edwards and Denesh Ramdin.
An offer to all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has been withdrawn because he has a personal endorsement contract with bMobile, a competitor of the West Indies' team sponsor Digicel.
