Sabina Park's revamp has fallen well behind |
Jamaican cricket chiefs have insisted that Sabina Park must be ready to host India on their tour of the West Indies. The company renovating the stadium for next year's World Cup are drastically behind schedule and had asked for matches this year to be called off.
But the local World Cup organising committee wants to use India's May-July tour as part its 2007 rehearsals.
India are due to play at Sabina Park in May and June. The overall revamp is due to be completely finished in November.
The venue will host seven games, including the tournament opener and a semi-final during the World Cup from 5 March to 28 April next year.
Jamaica Cricket 2007's executive director Richard Bryan said the upcoming India games - one-day internationals on 18 and 20 May and a Test from 30 June - will go ahead.
Construction firm Ashtrom began the project in January 2005.
But it says it has been held up by a lack of cement, which has caused delays at many of the grounds being upgraded for the World Cup, and labour problems.
Bryan said: "The board expressed to Ashtrom its deep concerns regarding their performances on the project to date."
