Former Sri Lanka paceman Ashantha de Mel has been appointed chairman of a new-look four-man selection panel. The 46-year-old, in his second spell in charge, will work with Amal Silva, Don Anurasiri and Shabbir Asgerally.
They replace the team headed by Lalith Kaluperuma, which had come in for criticism in recent weeks.
De Mel's previous one-year tenure ended in April 2005 when he claimed other selectors had undermined him and said he would only return with his own team.
"I have always said I was willing to take on the job again only if there is a decent selection committee," he said.
De Mel took 59 wickets in 17 Tests after Sri Lanka were granted Test status in 1982, but was forced to retire after the 1987 World Cup with a serious knee injury.
The new committee's first task will be to choose a squad for the five-match one-day series in England in June and July.
