South Africa batsman Herschelle Gibbs is keen to put the Hansie Cronje affair behind him once and for all before the ICC Champions Trophy in India. Gibbs has not returned to India since 2000, when he was banned for six months for his involvement in match-fixing, but he has now agreed to meet police.
"I have a copy of the questions they want to ask.
"It's the same old stuff that I answered six years ago plus one or two others," Gibbs told Bigstarcricket.com.
"We can only speculate on what is going to happen, but it's definitely time to lay this issue to rest."
Gibbs has admitted accepting 11,180 from former captain Cronje to score fewer than 20 runs against India in a limited-overs international on a tour in 2000.
He subsequently scored 74, and said he had "forgotten" about his deal, but was suspended and fined.
South Africa, winners of the inaugural Champions Trophy in 1998 (when it was known as the Wills International Cup) first play New Zealand in Mumbai on 16 October.
"I don't think it will be a distraction at all because it will only take a day to sort everything out," said Gibbs of the questioning process.
"There will then be another three days before our first match against New Zealand, so that will leave me enough time to focus on the cricket."
