Nicky Boje was not selected by South Africa, but Gibbs was |
Herschelle Gibbs faces a potential interview with police after being named in South Africa's squad for the ICC Champions Trophy in India in October. Gibbs, along with Nicky Boje who was not selected, was implicated in a match-fixing inquiry six years ago.
Cricket South Africa have said Gibbs will co-operate with India police if they wish to ask him any questions.
Hard-hitting batsman Loots Bosman, who has not played a one-day international, is preferred to Ashwell Prince.
Graeme Smith is recovering from an ankle operation but should be fit to lead the 14-man squad for India.
All-rounders Justin Kemp and Jacques Kallis - plus seamer Charl Langeveldt - have also been in the wars and will undergo fitness tests in Bloemfontein on Tuesday.
Kallis will captain the squad in a three-match ODI series in Zimbabwe, for which four extra players have been named - JP Duminy, Alviro Peterson, Roger Telemachus and Johan van der Wath.
It will be the first visit for Gibbs to India since he admitted accepting 11,180 to score fewer than 20 runs against them in a limited-overs international on a tour there in 2000.
He subsequently scored 74, suggesting he had "forgotten" about his deal but was suspended for six months from cricket and fined.
South Africa squad for ICC Champions Trophy: Graeme Smith, Jacques Kallis, Loots Bosman, Mark Boucher, AB de Villiers, Boeta Dippenaar, Herschelle Gibbs, Andrew Hall, Justin Kemp, Charl Langeveldt, Andre Nel Makhaya Ntini, Shaun Pollock, Robin Peterson.
