Pakistan let home team off hook
Albie Morkel
Paceman Morkel ended with figures of 5-113
The Rest of South Africa reached 220-4 in their reply to Pakistan's 485-9 declared on day two of the three-day tour match in Kimberley.

Morne van Wyk was 70 not out with Arno Jacobs on 69 after a sluggish start saw the South Africans reeling on 84-4.

Opener Boeta Dippenaar made five, Gulam Bodi added 25, Jean-Pual Duminy hit 29 and Vaughn van Jaarsveld scored 17.

Pakistan began on 401-3 but Younis Khan (76) fell quickly before Faisal Iqbal (42) and Kamran Akmal (33) took over.

Khan added two to his overnight total before he was caught behind by wicket-keeper Van Wyk off paceman Albie Morkel, brother of recent Test debutant Morne Morkel.

Iqbal, the other not-out batsman overnight, stroked a further 19 before he was pouched by Gulam Bodi off Morkel.

Wicket-keeper Akmal blasted 33 off 45 balls, as partners Umar Gul and Shahid Nazir fell cheaply around him, before he also fell to the Van Wyk/Morkel combination.

Danish Kaneria put on a late 14 before his wicket prompted Pakistan's captain Inzamam-ul-Haq to declare. Inzamam opted not to bat because of a chest infection.

"Because he wasn't feeling well, it was decided it would not be sensible for him to go out and bat in the hot sun," said Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer.

"But he will probably be able to bat if we get a second knock tomorrow (Monday)."

Morkel, a South Africa one-day international player, ended with figures of 5-113 off 26 overs.

For Pakistan, seamer Nazir and off-spinner Mohammad Hafeez claimed two wickets each but paceman Gul bowled just three overs as a precaution against a "left ankle niggle", according to Woolmer.
