Hafeez enjoyed himself against some less than incisive bowling |
Mohammad Hafeez and Imran Farhat helped themselves to centuries as Pakistan enjoyed a productive opening day at the start of their South Africa tour. The pair put on 182 for the first wicket as Pakistan made 401-3 against a Rest of South Africa XI at Kimberley.
They each hit 15 boundaries but Hafeez (108), who was dropped on 12, outdid Farhat (106) with three sixes to one.
The pair eventually retired to allow Yasir Hameed (79) and Younis Khan (74 not out) to join in the run feast.
Pakistan went into the three-day game without their star of 2006, but skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq had no hesitation in batting after he won the toss.
Hafeez and Farhat took their time initially but gradually accelerated to post a century partnership from only 123 balls as the home side had cause to rue JP Duminy's failure to hold the early chance offered by Hafeez from the bowling of Albie Morkel.
The home side eventually turned to spin, but neither Paul Adams nor Johan Botha, the latter looking to re-launch an international career after re-modelling his action, was able to stem the flow of runs.
The only wicket taken by a bowler during the day came with the total on 340 when left-arm seamer Yusuf Abdullah had Hameed caught by Ghulam Bodi.
But that was the home side's last success as Younis, who hit seven fours, and Faisal Iqbal (23) saw it through to stumps.
