Sinclair will meet up with the New Zealand tour party on Wednesday |
Mathew Sinclair has been added to the New Zealand squad for the one-day series against South Africa following the injury to opener Craig Cumming. Cumming fractured his cheekbone after being struck by a short ball during his side's defeat in the second Test.
Sinclair, 31, had been considering his future in the sport after being dropped as a contracted player in June.
Selector Sir Richard Hadlee said: "It is no time to experiment and Sinclair will add experience to the squad."
The three-match, one-day series gets under way in Durban on 25 November.
Sinclair has been recalled following his good, early-season form in domestic cricket, culminating in an unbeaten 243 for his Central Districts team.
He had been considering a move to England, Australia or South Africa after being dropped from New Zealand's list of contracted players for the second time.
He played his last one-day international in early 2005 and has scored 1448 Test runs at an average of 35.31.
