Houghton will continue to look for a new job in England |
Dave Houghton has ended his interest in becoming the new head coach of the Bangladesh national team. The 50-year-old had been short-listed for the post along with Australians John Harmer and Jamie Siddons.
But he has now told the Bangladesh Cricket Board that he wants to stay in England for family reasons.
Houghton, a former captain of Zimbabwe, was director of cricket with county side Derbyshire until he left the club by mutual consent in July.
Bangladesh, meanwhile, have been searching for a new coach since Dav Whatmore decided not to renew his contract following the World Cup earlier this year.
Shaun Williams has been in charge of the team on a temporary basis since then and is currently with them in South Africa, where the inaugural ICC World Twenty20 tournament starts next week.
Of the two remaining candidates, 65-year-old Harmer, who was formerly in charge of the Australia and England women's teams, has already been interviewed by BCB officials.
