Bashar made only 46 runs in four Test innings against India |
Bangladesh have named Habibul Bashar in their squad for the tour of Sri Lanka despite sacking him as Test skipper. The 34-year-old has struggled with the bat but brings experience to the side, which will be led by Mohammad Ashraful.
Left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak, 24, and batsman/wicket-keeper Mushfiqur Rahim, 18, replace Enamul Haque and Tushar Imran in the 15-man touring party.
Australian Shaun Williams will coach the side on an interim basis, stepping up from his role with the under-19s.
The Bangladesh board plans to name Dav Whatmore's long-term successor following the end of the series.
Bangladesh lost 1-0 to India in their recent two-match Test series which marked the end of Whatmore's four-year tenure and also Bashar's captaincy of the Test team.
They will play three Tests and three one-day matches in Sri Lanka, with the first Test beginning in Colombo on 25 June.
Chief selector Faruq Ahmed said: "Razzak had a very good World Cup. He is ninth in the one-day rankings, so, naturally, we thought he should be given chances in the longer version of the game.
"We selected Rahim because of his all-round abilities. He is a stand-by wicket-keeper and a good middle-order batsman. He has already played two Tests as a batsman."
Aftab Ahmed, Tamim Iqbal, Tushar Imran, Farhad Reza and uncapped off-spinner Mahmudullah Riyad will join the squad before the start of the one-day series.
