Bashar could be dropped after a poor run with the bat |
Habibul Bashar has given up the one-day captaincy of Bangladesh but wants to continue as a player in the team. The 34-year-old announced his decision after an innings defeat by India in the second Test meant a 1-0 series loss.
"I have made up my mind. I don't want to be the captain of the one-day side anymore. However, I'll be available for the one-day squad," Bashar explained.
But Bashar could be dropped from both the Test and one-day squads after a dismal run of form with the bat.
He made only 105 runs in the World Cup and was dismissed for a duck and 43 in the two recent one-day internationals against India on home soil.
The veteran right-hander also struggled in the two Tests, totalling only 46 in four innings.
Under his captaincy, Bangladesh have won one out of 18 Tests and 29 out of 69 ODIs.
Many of the ODI wins were against Zimbabwe and other lesser nations, but they did score notable wins in the World Cup against India and South Africa.
