Khaled Mahmud was still a Bangladesh player back in February |
Bangladesh Cricket Board have sacked manager Harunur Rashid just 10 days after his appointment, replacing him with former captain Khaled Mahmud. Rashid, a former air force officer, was chosen to manage the side for October's Champions Trophy in India.
But he was fired on Saturday following strong media criticism, BCB secretary Reazuddin Al Mamun told Reuters.
"We had been losing confidence in Rashid," the BCB official said,
without giving details.
Mahmud, 35, who retired from international cricket in February, played 12 Tests and 77 one-day internationals as a seam bowler and lower-order batsman.
"Mahmud is closely associated with the players and we hope
he can bring benefit to the team by many means," said Mamun.
Bangladesh play Sri Lanka, West Indies and Zimbabwe in the Champions Trophy qualifying rounds, starting from 7 October.
The top two teams will advance to the main draw.
