Lee opts out of Bangladesh series

Fast bowler Brett Lee has pulled out of Australia's squad for the forthcoming one-day series against Bangladesh.

A Cricket Australia statement said the 31-year-old would miss the three-match series because of a "family issue".

He will be replaced by uncapped Brett Geeves, 26, a member of the Tasmania side that beat Victoria in Australia's domestic one-day final in February.

"We look forward to Lee rejoining the group as soon as possible," said acting CA chief executive Michael Brown.

"The selectors are comfortable this move will maintain the competitive edge for the Australian side and provide a wonderful opportunity for Brett Geeves to join the Australian group for the first time."

The games against Bangladesh will be played on 30 August, 3 September and 6 September in the northern city of Darwin.

They will provide Australia with valuable match practice ahead of the Champions Trophy, which is scheduled to begin in Pakistan on 12 September, although their participation remains in doubt because of security concerns.

The selection Geeves is something of a surprise as Ashley Noffke was picked for the tour to the West Indies earlier this year, although he did not play in the one-day series, which Australia won 5-0.

Noffke has instead been included in the Australia A squad for a trip to India in September.

Bangladesh, meanwhile, scored a morale-boosting three-wicket win over an Australian Institute of Sport XI on Wednesday, the second of five warm-up games before the opening one-dayer.
