In all the confusion it may not have been the greatest finish to a World Cup final, but at least it meant we got to celebrate twice.

We gave everything, heart and soul

I am struggling to find the words to describe how I feel after being part of the squad in South Africa four years ago but not getting to play.

It felt great to win then but I wasn't part of every game, and feeling all the ups and downs and struggles you go through during a tournament.

This time it is an amazing feeling and something I'll remember the rest of my life.

Many people will say we have not had to struggle often through the tournament.

But there are always times where a game can go either way, like when South Africa started well against us in St Kitts and when England's batsmen were going well at one point.

In those situations you have to make the right decisions on the run and execute what you want to do. Over the whole tournament we did just that.

Sri Lanka made us work right the way through the final. There was nothing left in the tank and our boys were cooked, gone. We gave everything, heart and soul.

Runs on the board are always important, especially when bad weather is threatening, hence our skipper's decision to bat first.

We knew the Duckworth/Lewis system can get complicated, especially when you're under pressure, and that proved to be the case.

In the days leading up to the final we were saying that, every time there is a big game, Adam Gilchrist does something special. He did it again, with the Cup on the line.

As Sri Lanka began their reply, it was important for me to get a wicket early.

Of course, in a perfect tournament I would like to take 30 wickets with a five-for in every game, but with our line-up everybody plays a role.

While Glenn McGrath and Shaun Tait take the wickets, my job is to do what Glenn used to do: keep the pressure on and let the other blokes attack.

Glenn deserved to end his career with another Cup final win, as did our coach John Buchanan - both have worked tremendously hard throughout their careers.

John has given us every bit of information and prepared us as best he possibly can, while 'Pigeon' [McGrath] basically runs the bowling unit. He is always telling us what he thinks and nine times out of 10 he's right.

One of the other things that makes this win special is the knowledge so many friends and family back home supported us throughout.

My sister took time off work to watch the games and my pregnant wife, Haley, sent me a message saying: "I can't believe I'm getting up in the middle of the night to watch cricket!"

It's amazing to have them all part of it as well.

We worked very hard to get to this point - over the course of seven weeks we probably only had one chance to blow off steam.

Now we're going to enjoy the rewards of all the work we've put in.
