The 36-year-old has been out of international cricket since January because his wife is ill.

He has been named in the Aussies' squad for next month's one-day triangular series against India and West Indies.

"I know a lot of guys who have got a lot fitter and stronger when they are 40 than when they were 25. Mentally you're a lot stronger," he said.

"As long as the body holds together then to me you've got to be a better cricketer, and the body's feeling great, I'm training hard and everything is going well."

McGrath has 542 Test wickets, the most claimed by any paceman, and said last month that he wanted to take that tally to at least 600.

He missed two of the five Ashes Tests last summer - both of which England won to secure a 2-1 triumph - with ankle and elbow injuries.

The veteran seamer is expected to be a key figure in this winter's return series, having taken 136 wickets in 25 previous against England - 87 of which have come in 14 games in England.

There have been suggestions that he might retire after next year's World Cup but he has no plans to do that.

"As long as the desire and the hunger are still there I'll play as long as I can," McGrath added.
