Hayden and McGrath are now aged 34 and 36 respectively |
Glenn McGrath and Matthew Hayden have been recalled to Australia's one-day squad for next month's triangular series against India and West Indies. McGrath has not played international cricket since January because his wife has been battling cancer.
Opening batsman Hayden, meanwhile, has been out of the one-day side since last summer's tour to England.
Adam Gilchrist will miss the series in Malaysia, so Mike Hussey steps up as deputy to skipper Ricky Ponting.
The selectors have decided that Gilchrist should continue his training programme for October's ICC Champions Trophy at home, giving reserve keeper Brad Haddin a chance to add to his 13 one-day caps.
"Adam is a vital member of the Australian Test and one-day side and performs and extremely demanding role," said chief selector Andrew Hilditch.

The return of McGrath and Hayden will undoubtedly strengthen the squad, which will been reduced from 18 to 14 as the tournament progresses.
"Matthew has been a fantastic player for a long time and has continued to press his claims for a recall.
"He is still very much in our thoughts for the 2007 ICC World Cup and the one-day component of the Australian summer and this gives him an excellent opportunity to impress further.
"Glenn's return is exciting for Australian cricket," Hilditch added.
"We see this series as an ideal opportunity for him to return to the international cricketing scene and will use it to closely monitor his progress."
The squad also includes batsman Mark Cosgrove and off-spinner Dan Cullen, both 22, who made their debuts on the tour to Bangladesh in April.
