Flynn was forced off after facing just 13 deliveries |
New Zealand's Daniel Flynn has received the all-clear after feeling unwell 24 hours after being hit in the face by a bouncer from England's James Anderson. Flynn, who felt nauseous after having two teeth removed on Friday evening, was set to resume his innings on Saturday but felt dizzy during lunch. However, a neurosurgeon checked him over and a decision will be taken on Sunday as to when he returns. "We are just being cautious," said team manager Lindsay Crocker earlier. "We were looking to have him bat before lunch but he started to feel nauseous again. | He's a very keen competitor and tough as old boots New Zealand team manager Lindsay Crocker on Daniel Flynn | "That was a surprise because we fully expected him to bat, so to be sensible we have sent him off to see a neurosurgeon. "We want to make sure there's nothing there that will cause him any damage if he continues to play." In the end, even without the 23-year-old, New Zealand were able to move from an overnight score of 202-4 to register 381 in their first innings. "Right from the start, he wanted to go back out," added Crocker. "It's the nature of the bloke, he's a very keen competitor and tough as old boots." Flynn lost a tooth when Anderson's short-pitched ball appeared to force the grille of his helmet into his face. The Northern Districts batsman, who was forced to retire hurt with four to his name, also had a badly cracked bottom tooth, which was removed with one other tooth on Friday night. He will have all the missing teeth replaced at the end of the match.
