Anderson was not required for the first Test against New Zealand |
England seamer James Anderson will play for Auckland in New Zealand's domestic championship to help keep him match fit for the rest of the tour.Anderson played in the one-day series but was left out of England's side for the first Test against the Kiwis.
Auckland approached England after losing key bowlers to the rebel ICL league and international duty.
New Zealand Cricket reluctantly agreed to the move, but said it would prefer Auckland to use a young Kiwi bowler.
Auckland, who have four matches of the State Championship left to play, have bowlers Chris Martin and Kyle Mills in New Zealand's Test line-up.
And their resources have been stretched even further Andre Adams and Daryl Tuffey's decision to play in India.

New Zealand Cricket chief executive Justin Vaughan said Auckland's decision could end up backfiring on the national side.
"We are not particularly enthusiastic about it, but we can understand why Auckland want to do it," he said.
"We'd be happier if they gave a chance to a young New Zealand bowler because we can see a scenario where Anderson bowls himself into form and then helps England win the deciding final Test because of that."
Vaughan said he hoped their would be a reciprocal arrangement - possibly at second XI level - when New Zealand arrived in England in April.
England coach Peter Moores said he was fully behind the chance for Anderson to keep his match sharpness.

"It's an opportunity to get some match practice, which will be good for him," said Moores.
"He's played a lot of one-day cricket but didn't play in the three-day game last week so it's a great chance for him to go away and get some more experience of playing in New Zealand.
"Jimmy was very keen to go and play and that's how it came about because of his enthusiasm to get a game under his belt and get a bowl.
"He's bowled a lot in one-day cricket but this is an opportunity to test his rhythm and also his thinking for four-day cricket and the disciplines you need."
Anderson will link up with his new team on Thursday for the start of their match with Wellington at Eden Park.
