England wicketkeeper Geraint Jones will return to the country of his birth when he leads an MCC team on a tour of Papua New Guinea and New Zealand. Jones was born in PNG in 1976, and having missed out on a World Cup place, he is part of a 17-man squad including Yorkshire leg-spin hope Mark Lawson.
"I believe the England wicket-keeper's job is still up for grabs," Jones said.
"I'm back among the runs at club level and scoring runs for MCC, and for Kent, can put my name in the frame."
There are three Glamorgan players in the squad, batsman Michael Powell, fast bowler David Harrison and wicket-keeper/batsman Mark Wallace.
Three matches, including a Twenty20 fixture, will be played in Papua New Guinea before the players move to Christchurch and Queenstown in New Zealand for a further four games.
The final two-day encounter of the trip will be played in Auckland.
The MCC last toured Papua New Guinea in 2002 and, in partnership with the International Cricket Council, plan to make a donation to local authorities to invest in cricket infrastructure in the country.
